Full description
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The extraction pit is symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the northeast of Bassett Farm. The extraction pit is symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s It is sub-circular in shape, measures approximately 27.5m in diameter and is located within an area dominated by similar such earthwork features. The former extraction pit remains visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1969, although has been completely levelled and the site developed for residential housing by 1985.
