The extraction pit is partly symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012, within Knowle Hill Plantations. The former extraction pit is partly symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. It is elongated in shape, measures approximately 42m in length by 12m in width and is located within an area dominated by similar such earthwork features. The former extraction pit is obscured by a dense coverage of trees within Knowle Hill Plantations and, as such, was not clearly visible on aerial photographs viewed as part of this survey.
