A gridlike complex of earthwork banks, covering approximately 0.7 hecatres, is visible on aerial photographs taken in snow and low light conditions in 1963. The outer bank along the east side of the complex is depicted as a field boundary on the Tithe map, and is similar in appearance and width to the internal earthwork banks, which are up to 10 metres wide and enclose rectilinear areas of circa 20-25 metres across. This suggests that the internal banks went out of use by the mid nineteenth century, and it is possible that the earthworks are the remains of a deserted settlement, perhaps a farmstead and infields of medieval date. However interpretation is tentative and more archaeological work needs to be undertaken to ascertain the date and character of this site.
