A temporary bridge of Second World War date is visible as a structure on aerial photographs of 1944 across Lower Ley at Slapton Sands. The bridge measures approximately 245m in length by 3.5m in width and spans the width of Lower Ley, with mountings visible at each end and towards the centre of the bridge. The bridge, which was likely used to facilitate the movement of vehicles and troops during training exercises carried out in preparation for the Normandy landings, has been completely removed on aerial photographs of 1945. Below ground structures associated with the bridge, in particular the mountings may still survive.
