Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

'Hapstead' is depicted on the Tithe Map, 666 or 668 on apportionment (document is indistinct). Three buildings including the dwelling to the north-west of the yard and two farm buildings to the south-east.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Late 19th century map shows one of the farm buildings has been replaced by two smaller structures and a square building has been added further to the south-east. Some possible changes to the other structures between the Tithe Map and this map.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

The early 20th century map shows a number of new small buildings and alterations to the existing, especially to the mid-late 19th century square structure first depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map; this has been greatly expanded and is now named as 'Hapstead House'. Site is extended to the south-west during this period.
A lodge to the east of the farm is depicted for the first time on this map.

Ordnance Survey, 1930 - 1939, Fourth Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV336668.

Some further alterations shown on this version of the map, including another building adjacent to the Lodge and further alterations to the south-west of the site.

Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One, 295 (Monograph). SDV1312.

Hapstead is 'Hapstrete' in the 1600 Subsidy Rolls.

White, P., 2013, Previously Unsurveyed Dartmoor Historic Farmsteads (Un-published). SDV352501.

Included on list. No further detail provided.

Ordnance Survey, 2014, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV355681.

Hapstead House (Camphill Devon Community) depicted on the modern mapping. Extensions to the house, as well as three large buildings added to the south-west, a swimming pool and more buildings to the north-east of the original farm make it almost unrecognisable from the 19th century depictions.
Only the site of the original farm buildings is included in the polygon.
