Exeter Archaeology, 2003-2004, East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Archaeological Survey, 492 (Archive - Survey). SDV351568.

Field called Stonebury on Tithe Map (Tithe Apportionment No. 799). Name could derive from 'stone burh' referring to an earthwork. South-west boundary of field represents Colyton parish outlier boundary.
