Full description

English Heritage, 2013, Intertidal and Coastal Peat Database: Devon, Record ID 317, ID 225, Laboratory code Q-672. (Website). SDV350876.

Record ID 317. Year; 1965. Deposit description; peat on bluish grey sandy clay (containing pollen), on top of sterile blue clay (no organics). Peat patches between pebble ridge and low water mark. Associated artefacts; flints found (Ellis, 1866). Wooden stakes found by Hall. Red deer antler found by Worth (1934). Early work; first identified de la Beche (1839). Considered sea level to be 4-6m below present at time of peat formation.

ID 225. Laboratory code Q-672. Depth of sample; wood from top of peat. Uncalibrated date 6585 ± 130 BP. Areas 2 and 3.
