Summary

Farmstead dates to at least the mid-15th century, based on documentary sources. The main farm buildings appear to have changed little since the Tithe Map depiction. Also known as 'Duraunce' in the past and was probably associated with the family of Reginald Durante.

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Durance is depicted on the Tithe Map; 564 on the Meavy apportionment: 'Dwelling house, outhouses, courts and mow plot'. The house is to the east of the farm, with three small buildings on the western side of the yard.

The late 19th century map shows a couple of larger buildings on the north and south-west of the farm.

The early 20th century map shows the building on the north of the farm has been extended to the west.
