Full description

A broad earthwork ditch is visible.

A former possible field boundary or strip field of probable medieval to post medieval date was visible on images derived from lidar data as a shallow earthwork ditch approximately 20 metres in width, to the east of Middle Bolealler.
The earthwork ditch does not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch map of the 1880s-1890s or the Tithe map for Cullompton. It is therefore probable that the boundary had passed out of use prior to the 1840s.
Alongside neighbouring field boundaries that remained in use into the mid-20th century, but were removed by 1967, the relict earthworks are probably evidence for strip field cultivation of medieval date.
