A possible former quarry of probable medieval to post-medieval date is visible on images derived from lidar data as a large but shallow earthwork pit, or possibly several large intercutting pits, on north-east facing slopes overlooking the River Weaver to the north-east of Whiteheathfield Barton. The disturbed area extends along the spur for over 110 metres and is over 80 metres wide. It is unclear how the possible quarry earthworks relate to the historic field boundaries that previously crossed the line of the pit. No evidence of the possible quarry earthworks can be seen on the aerial photographs available to the survey.
