A possible water meadow system of probable 19th century date is visible as a series of earthwork ditches on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the northeast of Colebrook. This extensive system covers an area of approximately 12.14 hectares of easterly and westerly sloping ground either side of Cole Brook. It is largely unclear, however, how this system may have operated and what components of this system may have simply operated as land drainage. A number of parallel and narrow earthwork ditches which generally respect the landform to the northeast of the system most clearly resemble a water meadow system. These possible gutters appear to tap Cole Brook further upstream to the southwest. Earthwork ditches to the southwest, however, are less typical of a water meadow system, although may represent a local adaptation of some kind, with gutters which appear to tap a series of larger earthwork ditches either parallel or perpendicular to the slope. The possible water meadow system remains visible as a series of earthwork ditches on digital images derived from both Lidar data captured in 2005 and from aerial photographs taken in 2010. The eastern edge of the water meadow system appears, however, to have been partly levelled following landscaping and development of land into Padbrook Park Golf Centre.
