Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Lower Knowle. The site of the orchard is listed on the Cullompton parish tithe apportionment of approximately 1838-48, although appears to have been largely cleared by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 show that the fruit trees have been completely grubbed up, leaving a series of parallel northwest to southeast aligned earthwork banks, upon which the fruit trees were established, visible. These surviving earthwork banks occupy an area of approximately 0.36 hectares of east facing slope, within a single rectilinear shaped plot which is depicted on the tithe map. The orchard banks remain visible as a series of faint earthwork banks on aerial photographs up until 1969, although their survival after this date is unclear and may have been completely levelled.
