Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 and 1967, to the south of Lower Moorhayes. The site of the orchard is first listed on the Cullompton parish tithe apportionment of approximately 1838-48, although appears to have largely passed out of use by the time of the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 show that the orchard trees have been completely grubbed out, leaving a series of short parallel and northwest to southeast aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. The surviving earthwork banks occupy an area of approximately 0.36 hectares of fairly level ground along the southern edge of a small rectilinear shaped plot depicted on the tithe map. The orchard banks remain visible as a series of partial earthwork banks on aerial photographs up until 1967, although their survival after this date is unclear and may have been completely levelled.
