The former course of Sidmouth Road is depicted north of its current route.

The previous course of Sidmouth Road is visible as a shallow earthwork ditch to the south-east of Whiteheathfield Barton. The course of the road was straightened over approximately 150 metres at some point between circa 1840 and circa 1880. The former sinuous route was preserved as a field boundary that survived into the 1940s but had been removed by the late 1960s.
