Correspondence from member of the public detailing crop marks. Bill Horner responded to advise that many of the envelope crop marks are associated with modern harvesting patterns. Where tumuli was identified Bill Horner has suggested that these are likely to be associated with mining activity during the medieval period and is part of the Barton Iron Mine. These particular pits are well preserved compared to others recorded in the nearby area. There is evidence from Exmoor that iron mining was extensivley worked in the Roman period, so a possibility that the extraction could date back to this period.
