The extraction pit is symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the east of South Hill Plantation. The pit, which is first symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, is situated on north facing slope towards the crest of a prominent spur. It is irregular in shape and measures approximately 16.5m in length by 9m in width and remains visible as a possible slight earthwork pit on digital images derived from Lidar data captured between 2005 and 2012.
