- WRECK (XIX to Early 20th Century - 1840 AD to 1930 AD)
Full description
Robertson, P., 1995, Marine Archaeology and Lundy Marine Nature Reserve: An Assessment for English Nature and the Landmark Trust, 12 (Report - non-specific). SDV349969.
The remains of an unidentified ship in 10-18 metres at low water at the northern side of Seal Rock. The remains lie on an undulating seabed of granite boulders in a high energy site.
Wreckage consists of isolated artefact scatter, mostly fragmented metal frames and hull plating. The method of fastening could not be identified. Site is located on a dropoff to 40 metres, and while more of the wreck may lie at the bottom of the slope, this could not be confirmed during survey.
From the construction materials it is reasonable to assume that the vessel dates from the mid 19th or early 20th centuries.
