Full description

Hutchinson, P. O., 1880, 2nd Report of the Barrow Committee, 140 (Article in Serial). SDV123157.

One of a group of three barrows on the eastern side of the down. Small and covered with heath and furze. Other details: Barrow 74.


Worth, R. H., 1899, 18th Report of the Barrow Committee, 95 (Article in Serial). SDV339157.

Barrow 2, excavated in the 1890s. Quantity of charcoal found to the north of the centre, and scattered charcoal over the general surface of the subsoil at the centre. A small flat stone, apparently not of local origin, was also found. No traces of bone, metal, pottery, or manufactured flint. Other details: Plate 1.

Small cairn. Hutchinson no 74. Fox no 56. Diameter 25 feet, height 2 feet. Ploughed flat 1949. Excavated by Worth, no finds.
Site visit on 26/02/1957. A fence and occupation road has cut through this feature on its southern edge.
Site visit on 17/11/1975. Cairn site 'B' has been completely destroyed by a wide hedging ditch.
Site visit on 16/02/1982. It seems likely that the scheduling applies to 'A' rather than 'B' Other details: Plan, site B.
