Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

'Cranbrook' is depicted on the Tithe Map; 1914 on the Moretonhampstead apportionment ('homestead and garden'). The layout shows two large buildings to the north of the road, one of which is presumably the dwelling and three small buildings clustered around them. To the south of the dividing road are two further buildings, listed separately as Cranbrook.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The late 19th century historic map shows few changes to the layout of the farm, as shown on the Tithe Map.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

As the late 19th century map.

Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1932, The Place-Names of Devon: Part Two, 485 (Monograph). SDV337894.

Cranbrook is 'Cranbroc' and 'Cranbrok' in 1345, 'Little, Gret Cranbroke' in 1469. Thought to mean 'crane or heron brook'.

Royal Air Force, 1946 - 1949, Royal Air Force Aerial Photographs (Aerial Photograph). SDV342938.

The aerial photograph shows that by the late 1940s, the two main buildings on the farm had gone; presumably including the old farmhouse. Only two small buildings, to the north and south of the yard can be seen.

GetMapping, 1999 - 2000, Dartmoor 1999-2000 1:1250 Aerial Photography (digital) (Aerial Photograph). SDV345751.

The aerial photograph shows a large new mid-late 20th century agricultural building has been constructed in between the two remaining buildings.

White, P., 2013, Previously Unsurveyed Dartmoor Historic Farmsteads, Cranbrook (Un-published). SDV352501.

Included on list. No further detail provided.

Ordnance Survey, 2014, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV355681.

Modern map shows two of the older buildings and the modern central structure.
