Summary

Building dates to the mid-late 19th century, based on cartographic evidence. Not shown on the Tithe Map, it is depicted on the late 19th century historic map, along with the Primary School, which was built in 1875. It is quite possible this building was associated with the school, perhaps as headmasters accommodation, for example. Date stone on the façade facing the road may read 1878.

Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Tithe Map does not shown this building, although a rectangular building is depicted in close proximity to the site just north of the bend in the road.

House is depicted on the historic mapping for the first time, close to the school. It is quite possible this building was associated with the school, perhaps as headmasters accommodation, for example.

Two- storey stone-built structure, with single bay gable end facing the road. Date stone set above the upper window; may read 1878? One mullioned bay window on the ground floor facing the road with window above. Cross gable slate roof with tall stack set on the right side of the front gable. Gable finial decoration at apex.
