Three dining rooms, one for each of the three battery camps, and a barrack block (Buildings 59, 65, 85 and 147) were built in 1894 all with a similar plan and internal layout. Building 65 was subsequently remodelled as a dining room to serve the north-eastern area of the camp. As originally conceived, food was prepared on the premises using a 'Warner's cooking appliance but detached cookhouses were built to serve each one from 1904. The dining rooms are constructed of limestone blocks with brick dressings under slate roofs. Each had a similar internal arrangment comprising a central unit with an entrance, NCOs room and cooks room at the rear. On either side is a dining room wing. Building 147 functioned as an officers mess in the 1950s and was modernised in 1966. Map object based on this source.
