A water meadow system of probable 19th century date is visible as a series of earthwork ditches on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the northwest of Widhayes Farm. The system occupies an area of approximately 10.12 hectares of gentle southwest facing slope on either side of the River Lowman. It is visible as a series of linear and curvilinear earthwork ditches which are commonly northeast to southwest and northwest to southeast aligned. The system, which is partly defined on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, is likely fed further upstream by the River Lowman and controlled by a series of drains and sluice gates. Evidence of additional water meadow systems are also visible further to the southwest. It remains partly visible as a series of earthwork ditches on digital images derived from Lidar data captured between 2005 and 2012.
