Aerial photograph taken?? 1977 shows good cropmarks over large area of farm land to north-east, east, and south-east of chettiscombe farm. Cropmarks suggest enclosure/fields/hut circle of prehistoric settlement site (worksheet). Part of site on ss91ne.

Linear cropmarks of possible former medieval field boundaries or 19th century water meadow gutters are visible on aerial photographs of 1978, to the southeast of Chettiscombe. The fragmented north to south aligned linear features closely respect the historic field system of medieval enclosures based on strip fields and may form part of former field boundaries which are partly depicted on the parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48, but which appear to have largely passed out of use by this time. The cropmarks may also have served as drains for the extensive water meadow system recorded to the immediate south. The cropmarks of a possible ring ditch were also visible within the immediate vicinity on the same aerial photographs of 1978, although were recorded as independent monuments. The 1977? aerial photographic source of this record could not be located within the HER, although it likely represents the same source as that used for this survey.
