Cookhouse (Building 146) is the only surviving detached cookhouse. Built between 1900 and 1906 to serve the adjacent dining room (Building 147). Its original plan form was smaller than it is today and U-shaped. The gap inside the 'U' was in-filled in about 1928 and a preparation room built onto the side. The other cookhouses on the camp were put to different uses, probably as a result of the conversion of their dining rooms to barracks but Building 146 continued to serve 147 which became an officer's mess. The interior was remodelled after 1981. Constructed of brick under a slate roof. Map object based on this source.
