Name:Possible Former Field Boundary East of Mortimers Farm

Summary

A linear earthwork ditch, visible on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and images derived from lidar data captured in 2010, is considered most likely to be the remains of a removed medieval or post-medieval field boundary that passed out of use prior to the mid-19th century.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.

A linear earthwork ditch, up to 2 metres in width, is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2010 and aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards. It may be a drainage ditch, but it is on broadly the same alignment as an extant boundary to the north-east that is depicted on historic maps, and is tentatively interpreted as the relict remains of a removed field boundary of medieval or post-medieval date. No field boundaries are depicted in this location on the Tithe maps, and any field boundary here therefore appears to have passed out of use prior to the mid-19th century.
