Full description

Exeter Archaeology, 2003, Archaeological Asssessment of Land off Charlotte Street, Crediton, 4 (Report - Assessment). SDV352118.

Archaeological works on the site of the new Hayward Primary School in 2002 revealed a large pit containing abundant horn cores. The cores probably represent waste material from meat processing and may be associated with a butcher operating in East Street.

Allan, J. + Blackmore, S. + Passmore, A., 2010, Archaeological investigations around Crediton Parish Church, 1984-2007, 150, Fig. 28 (Article in Serial). SDV363629.

A pit containing horn corns was found during an archaeological evaluation at Hayward's School in 2002. The pit had been dug against the wall of an earlier building which appears to have gone out of use by that time. The pit also contained sherds of late medieval and 16th century pottery, as well as finds from the 17th to 19th centuries.
