Orchard banks of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the east of Swanhams Farm. The site of the orchard is first symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1946 show that the orchard trees remain largely intact, although a series of partial earthwork banks are visible. By 1966 these have been completely grubbed out, exposing a series of parallel east to west aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. The banks occupy an area of approximately 0.51 hectares of west facing slope, within a small rectilinear shaped plot depicted on historical mapping. The orchard banks remain visible as slight earthworks on digital images derived from Lidar data captured between 2005 and 2010.
