The possible location of a beacon is indicated by the field name 'Beacon Clift' within plot 736 on the Axmouth parish tithe apportionment of approximately 1838-48, to the east of the former Whitlands Coastguard Station. An earthwork mound interpreted as a possible barrow has been recorded towards the northeast of the field which may warrant further investigation.
