Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The hamlet of Lake is depicted on the Tithe Map, with six separate dwellings shown, including the Bearslake farmhouse and cottage to the north. A very small dwelling to the south-west of the farmhouse is also listed in the apportionment as being part of the farmstead. The longhouse is shown with a garden to the east (rear) of the house. 1222 ('House and yard') on the Sourton apportionment.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The late 19th century historic map shows the farmhouse has been extended to the south and joined to a building set just behind it (to the east).

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

Much the same as the late 19th century historic map, although the dwelling to the south-west of the farmhouse appears to have fallen out of use by this time.

White, P., 2013, Previously Unsurveyed Dartmoor Historic Farmsteads (Un-published). SDV352501.

Included on list. No further detail provided.

Ordnance Survey, 2015, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV357601.

Modern map shows the Bearslake Inn and Restaurant with a large car park to the west, overlying the site of the small dwelling / garden shown on the 19th century historic maps.
