Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.

Two large probable quarry pits are visible as irregularly shaped earthworks, circa 40 metres across, on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured in 2005. Both appear to be cut into the hillside, and to broadly confirm to irregularly shaped field parcels depicted on the Tithe map. Of these, 1083 was named ‘Pitt’ and used as pasture; whilst 1084 was an orchard, suggesting that the quarrying pre-dated the enclosure and agricultural / horticultural use of these parcels of land. The latter is depicted as orchard on the late-19th century OS map.
