Two large probable quarry pits are visible as irregularly shaped earthworks, 70 by 45 and 50 by 45 metres across, on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured in 2010. Both appear to be cut into the hillside, either side of a water course. They are not depicted on the available historic mapping, but do not have the appearance of recently cut features on the 1940s aerial photographs, so their use may pre-date the late nineteenth century.
