A pond is first illustrated on an estate map of the Manor of Spriddlestone (1785) in a field recorded as 'Pond New Park'. The pond is also illustrated within Plot 22 on the Brixton Tithe Map of 1839, recorded as 'Pond in Pond Meadow' within the Tithe Apportionment. The adjacent field to the south-east is recorded as 'Pond Meadow' (Plot 21) within the Tithe Apportionment. The outline of the pond is visible on both the First and Second Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey maps (c.1880s and 1904-6), and is still present on the Ordnance Survey Master Map.
