Summary

Plots 584 and 589 on the 1839 Newton Ferrers tithe map are recorded as 'Bowling Green', to the north of Butts Park. Plot 589 forms a reasonable rectangle and may have once been used as such. Interestingly, field 585, which lies between these two, is called 'Beers Park' which would seem to support the idea that communal/social/sporting activities were once undertaken hereabouts. Neither the First Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s or the Second Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map of between 1904-06 provide any evidence to support this contention.
