Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.

Two large probable extraction pits are visible as irregularly-shaped earthworks, 30 metres across and 25 by 40 metres across, on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured in 2010. Neither are marked on the available historic mapping, but the northern pit corresponds to a deviation in the field boundary, and the southern pit to an irregular pit depicted with hachures on the late-19th century map. The disuse of the pit therefore appears to pre-date the mid-19th century. The pits are depicted as ponds on the modern mapping.
