Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.
A probable extraction pit is visible as an irregularly-shaped earthwork, circa 18 by 30 metres across, on aerial photographs taken from 1950 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured in 2010. It is clearly visible as a dark cropmark with a characteristic pale border typical of infilled pits on aerial photographs taken in 1989. No quarry is marked on the available historic mapping, but the pit corresponds to an oval area that is depicted, suggesting that the pit pre-dated the late-19th century. It may be one of numerous former whetstone pits in this area.
