Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.

A probable extraction pit is visible as an irregularly-shaped earthwork, circa 17 by 25 metres across, on aerial photographs taken from 1950 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured in 2010. It is clearly visible as a dark cropmark with a characteristic pale border typical of infilled pits on aerial photographs taken in 1989. No quarry is marked on the available historic mapping, suggesting that the pit pre-dated the late-19th century. It may be one of numerous former whetstone pits in this area.
