Parallel linear earthwork banks, circa 3.5 metres in width, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2010. Their greatest extent corresponds to the shape of a field west of Windwhistle Farm that is numbered 975 on the Tithe map, and named ‘Great Orchard’ in the 1843 Tithe Apportionment for Broadhembury. This, together with the cross-contour alignment of the banks, supports an interpretation as banks for fruit tree planting, which are likely to be post-medieval or 19th century in date. Although the number of available mid-20th century aerial photographs for this area was limited, no earthworks were recorded from them, suggesting that relict banks are likely to be slight.
