Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.

Parallel linear earthwork banks, between 4 and 2.5 metres in width, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1950 and on images derived from lidar data captured in 2010. They are located in a field depicted as orchard in the late-19th century mapping and this, together with the cross-contour alignment of the banks, supports an interpretation as banks for fruit tree planting. They are likely to be post-medieval or 19th century in date and may have been created in two phases, since those on the west are larger at 4 metres wide than those on the east at 2.5 metres in width, and on a slightly different alignment.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

The remains of numerous parallel ridges spaced circa 4 to 7 metres apart were visible as low earthwork banks under light tree cover on aerial photographs of 1950 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, to the south of Hearne Farm.
The visible earthwork banks are a continuation of those recorded by the above authority and also fall within with the plot depicted as an orchard on the 19th century mapping available to the survey; Plot 220 on the Tithe Map for Plymtree is recorded as Great Orchard on the accompanying apportionments, associated with the Herne Farm estate.
