Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The area of quarrying is partly symbolised on the Sampford Peverell parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48.

The two quarries are depicted and labelled as such on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

The former quarries are visible as earthwork pits.

Quarries of probable post-medieval to modern date are visible as earthwork pits on digital images derived from Lidar data captured between 2005 and 2010, on Connigar Hill. The two adjacent irregular shaped quarries appear to be partly symbolised on the parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48, although are more fully depicted and labelled as such on the First Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. They are also partly depicted on the Ordnance Survey 2015 MasterMap. The former quarries are located in close proximity to other extensive workings to the northeast.
