Former field boundaries of potential medieval date are visible as a series of soil mark banks on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010, to the northwest of Lock’s Cottage. The linear northwest to southeast and northeast to southwest aligned boundaries are visible as heavily plough-spread and diffuse soil marks which measure up to 16m in width. The boundaries are based on medieval enclosures based on strip fields and are partly depicted on the parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48, although a number of the boundaries appear to have passed out of use by this time. The former boundaries were not visible on other aerial photographs or digital images made available to the survey.
