Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2014-2015, East and Mid Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV356883.

A probable former quarry pit of possible medieval to 19th century date is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards and images derived from lidar data, as an earthwork hollow to the east of Lower Chitterley Farm. The earthwork does not correspond with any features depicted on the historic maps available to the survey; the Tithe Map coverage for this location is incomplete, but the site of the pit appears to be symbolised as an orchard. This might support the interpretation that the quarry had passed out of use prior to establishment of the orchard, at least by the mid-19th century.
