The remains of orchard tree planting banks of probable post-medieval to 19th century date are visible digital images derived from lidar data as earthworks banks to the south-east of Chitterleigh Cottage.
The east to west aligned banks are between 2 and 4 metres wide and were probably made to enhance drainage within an orchard. The banks fall within the area of one of the many orchards depicted on both the Tithe Map for Bickleigh and the Ordnance Survey 25 inch map around Chitterleigh (Chitterley on the OS map). The orchar remained planted into the 1940s.
