Full description

Pengelly, W., 1878, Third report of the Committee on Scientific Memoranda, 75 (Article in Serial). SDV337756.

Visited on 30th May 1878. Implement of grey flint or chert, on surface of ground of the new cemetery in Sidmouth. Probably Palaeolithic.

Probable Palaeolithic implement of grey flint or chert 5.2 inches long by 2.4 inches wide (13.21 centimetres by 6.1 centimetres) was found on the surface of the New Cemetery in Sidmouth on 30th May 1878.
A Mesolithic tranchet axe/adze from Sidmouth Cemetery is now in Rougemont House Museum in Exeter (citing Wymer).
