Weddell, P. J. + Henderson, C. G., 1985, Excavations in Exmouth 1982-4, 40 (Article in Serial). SDV354905.

Excavations on the north side of Lower Fore Street in 1982 showed that the road developed as a hollow way. It was not possible to determine the age of the street but it had been in use for a considerable time before gravel metalling was provided which halted erosion in the late 14th or early 15th century. 12th and 13th century pottery was recovered during the excavations.
