Plot 58 on the Clyst St George Tithe Map of 1839 is recorded as 'Pit Bench' and plot 82 is recorded as 'Pit Second Bench' within the Tithe Apportionment. The field names indicate the presence of at least one pit within the vicinity, although no features are depicted within this location on either the Tithe Map or later First Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map.
