The field names likely give reference to the tracks which partly define the field boundaries, or perhaps refer to the course of an earlier route.

On the 1839 East Portlemouth tithe map, fields west of the village of East Portlemouth overlooking Salcombe Harbour are recorded as 'Pafsage Way' (plot 602), 'Higher Pafsage Way' (plot 600) and 'Lower Pafsage Way' (plot 601) on the accompanying apportionment.
