The remains of linear earthworks banks were visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 2005 and 2012 to the north-east of Rudway Barton in the Exe Valley.
The banks, each up to 9 metres broad, are interpreted as probable fruit tree planting banks of post-medieval to 19th century date, made to enhance drainage within an orchard. The banks coincide with an orchard depicted on the on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch first edition map and probably drained into a water channel that passes along the east and southern edges of the former orchard. The orchard remained densely planted into the 1940s and was only lightly covered with trees on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010. The orchard therefore passed out of use in the second half of the 20th century. A footpath following the line of the Rewe/Silverton parish boundary cuts through the banks at the south-east corner of the former orchard. The banks are likely to survive as low earthworks.
