Summary

Starre farm, beer. East devon chimneys have greater elegance than other devon chimneys, due probably to the use of freestone. The date-stone here in the chimney bears the device of the original owner, john starre, set in a lozenge (oliver). Starre house is 16th century (pevsner). Ashlar and rubble built with slate roof of two storeys with ashlar stacks. Stone mullioned windows and wood casements. Doorway with four-centred head. Late xviii and later? (doe).
