On the 173 acre Venn Farm at Allington in 1923 the buildings enclosed a 'good yard' and must have served a mixed farming enterprise with an emphasis on dairying. They consisted of 'fowl house, cart linhay, double calve's house with loft over, large barn, 5-stall stable , and loose box with loft over,two shippons for seven and five cattle respectively, two root houses adjoining with loft over, another shippon for ten cattle, and two calving houses with lofts over and feeding passage, five piggeries, feeding house with granary over, trap house with wool chamber above'.
