'Lower Combe Farm' marked.

Wade-Martins, S., 2000, The Farmsteads of Devon: A Thematic Survey, 17 (Monograph). SDV351739.

A '9-stalled cart-horse stable' is listed in the sale particulars for the 90-acre Lower Coombe Farm. This may seem excessive until we read that the farm was an important cider producer, 'the Coombe cider being very well known in the neighbourhood'. The horses would therefore have been needed to pull drays as well as for normal farm work.
